Fear Was Once: 

monsters under the bed

father's motorcycle driving away

a stranger knocking

broken glass/bare feet

stomach flu
particular mood in mother's eyes.

Scary things morphed into:

trusting another's beating heart

so

goodbye to hugs

and velvety kisses

solar plexus flames

i put you out

farewell to tangled limbs

and

four lungs breathing

(like mountain climbers)

so long to

reaching hands

for my breasts

no more candles
