Preserving Our Selves

Yes, you're still there.

How deep the roots go
tangled through this pumping muscle
beautiful electrical currents

My GOD
how we lit up

Guttural gasps

Tassels on your lamp

We couldn't wait

I remember it all

even now
I can hear
the fire crackling

dangerously close

Did you

swallow me whole?

Am I prisoner lost inside
your memory

or the warden
jingling the keys

What kind of game
have we been playing?

I never knew.

The echo of us
reverberates in a cave
somewhere

An ouroboros we've become
eating the lovely tail

of ourselves.
